Delhi cop stops men for patrol, stabbed to death; key accused killed in encounter

A day after a Delhi Police constable was stabbed to death, the key accused was shot dead in an encounter with police in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area, officials said on Sunday.
The 28-year-old constable, Kiran Pal, was stabbed to death by three men while on a night patrol in the Govindpuri area on Friday. Multiple teams were formed by the police, and a massive manhunt was launched.
Two of the attackers–Deepak Max (20) and Krish Gupta (18)–were arrested on Saturday, while the third, Raghav, remained at large.
Police tracked down Raghav to a hideout in Sangam Vihar, and special police teams reached the area late on Saturday night. The accused was asked to surrender, but he opened fire at the police personnel, who retaliated in self-defence and injured him, according to officials.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Police suspect the accused were drug addicts and engaged in petty crimes.

Late Friday night, three men riding a scooter in the area, allegedly planning to rob a house or individuals, were intercepted by Constable Kiran Pal.
Pal, who was on patrol on his motorbike, spotted the trio around 5.30 am. When confronted, the suspects threw stones at Pal in an attempt to flee. Undeterred, Pal blocked their scooter with his bike and removed the key.
At that moment, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed Pal, according to the police.
Officers from a nearby booth quickly rushed Pal to Majidia Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. He had sustained fatal stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Pal is originally from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.
He joined the Delhi Police as a constable in 2018 and was initially posted at the Kishan Garh Police Station. In March of this year, he was transferred to the Govindpuri Police Station.
